SHIPMENT OF THOROUGHBREDS.
ARRIVAL AT WELLINGTON. SEVERAL JOCKEYS RETURN. (Special to Daily Times.) WELLINGTON, May 3. By the Ulimaroa to-day there arrived no fewer than 46 thoroughbred horses. The majority of these were yearlings Purchased at the Easter sales in Sydney, and are destined for various parts of the country. . _ .. ~, Count Cavour his trainer (T. H. •Gillett) and rider (F. C. Porter) arrived, hrom them it was learned, that tho chestnut had done well on the trip, and no excuses were offered for his failure. . W. H. Dwyer brought Paleta home, the two-year-old’s rider (D. Watts) also being on the ship. Paleta lost all form in Australia, and after he had petered out in the last two furlong? of the Sires Produce Stakes it was realised -that he was not himself, and it was decided not to run him again. » ' W. H. Dwyor also brought back the Humbug—Couranto yearling colt purchased by Mr J. Lowe, of Wanganui. It is understood that Dwyer will train the youngster. The Trentham trainer, J Lowe, returned with three yearlings under his care. Aberfcldy, who, has been racing with little success iij and around Sydney, also returned to-day. It was learned that M. M’Carten is returning next week to wind up his business affairs in New Zealand, as he has decided to reside permanently in Australia.
