OTAGO TEACHERS’ INSTITUTE.

A meeting of tka Committee of Management of the Otago Teachers’ Institute was held in the chib room on Saturday. The chair waa occupied by the president (Mr T. R. W. Coutts) . The Chairman made feeling reference to the bereavement suffered by Mr 0. M'Kinnon, president of the Dunedin subbranch, through the death of his wife.A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr MTOnnon, the members standing in silence. Two cases of teachers in difficulties in difficulties in their districts were discussed by the committee, and a definite couse of action waa decided on. The executive wrote asking for information as to the position in Otago regarding medical certificates. —It) was decided to reply that the Otago Education Board did not, as a general rule, insist on medical certificates from teachers entering from outside districts. In reply to a further communication from the executive, the secretary was instructed to inform the body that married women teachers in Otago were not subjected to an inquiry into their private and personal affairs. The President pointed out to members that the conference this year would be the fiftieth annual meeting. The Otago Educational Institute had, therefore, decided to celebrate the occasion of its jubilee in a fitting manner. A jubilee memoir would be published,, and a su committee had been set up to make arrangements for the holding of a grand jubilee social.
