NASEBY NOTES.
(Feom Oun Own Cobeespondest.) NASEBV, April 29. Tho election of Mayor in Nasoby on Wednesday created some interest m (die locality, as there had not boon an election for this office for 16 years. The result was announced shortly after seven, showing that the retiring Mayor had been re-elected with 63 votes against 42 for Mr Lloyd. Mr 1-lore, in thanking those present, intimated that he had sought re-election because ho was of opinion that a local man should hold office, as knowing tho needs of the borough in preference to one who had not been so long in tho town. Mr Lloyd also thanked those who supported him, and said tlu*t the result was about what ho expected, but so long as he was a ratepayer and elector, he would always offer his services. He regretted Mr Horo’s remarks against an outmder, and also pointed out that ho had hod to draw attention to certain irregularities in the proceedings. Winter evening pastimes ore now commencing. St. George’s Church weekly euchre tournament was commenced on Tuesday last, and tho bowling club’s tournament started on Thursday. These weekly events arc always popular, and both began with excellent attendances. A proposal is on foot to form a Literary Club in tho town, meeting once a fortnight. Tho Loyal Naseby Oddfellows' Lodge also has a programme of debates and social evenings arranged for winter, so that there will bo plenty to interest local people during the winter. Tho football club corn mouce matches on Saturday next, the firsts against Poolburn, at Poolhum, whilst the second team entertain Hyde at Naseby.
