OTAGO HARBOUR BOARD.

IMPORTANT BUSINESS TRANSACTED. An adjourned meeting of the Otago Harbour Board was held last night, and was attended by Messrs J. M'C. Dickson, M.P. (chairman). H. M Driver, A. Cable, W. Gow, 11. C. Campbell, H. E. Moller, T. Anderson, D. H. S. Sharpe, Keith Hamsay, D. Larnach, J. Loudon, W. Wilkin _ son, and Captain Coll. M’Donald. The board at once went into committee to consider the question of wages of members of the various staffs. The balance oi the estimates, consideration of which had been held over from the last meeting pending the decision of the board regarding wages, was’ then passed. The estimated revenue was reported to be £175,205. and the estimated expenditure £170,027. leaving a balance of £5178. The estimated expenditure under the £350,000 loan, apart from the cost of the dredge, was reported to be £39,500 for the year 1926-27. The details of the latter expenditure are as follow:—Extension of Victoria wharf, £4500; new shed, Rattray street wharf, £5000; raising mole, £29,500; raising walls of Leith Canal, £2500£39 500. _ The discussion regarding the new, dredge was also taken in committee. The dredge is to 'bo a self-propelled hopper dredger, with a maximum length of 265 ft and a minimum hopper capacity of 2000 tons. It is proposed that the speed shall be nine knots on trials. It was decided that the coal bunkers bo made on tight, so that later on, if considered necessary, the dredge can be converted into an oil-burner. It was decided that the name of the dredge should be Otakou, the original name of the port. It was decided to pay an account of £4510 received from the Drainage Board for the carrying out of various works. An account was received from the City Council for £2129. It was decided to pay the amount, less £550, part cost of the bridge over Union street. It was decided to obtain further information regarding the charge of £330.
