THE FASCIST LEADER
NO THOUGHTS OF AGGRHSSION, * COLONIAL EXPANSION DESIRED. (Frees Aetooiation—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, January 24. (Received Jan. 24, at 10 p.m.) Signor Mussolini, interviewed by Mr Ashmead-Bartlett for the Daily Express, said that the Fascist militia now numbered 265,000 enrolled men, but only 10,000 were permanently on duty under arms. The militia was absolutely untrained and unequipped for foreign warfare. Italy had only 149,000 soldiers for the defence of frontiers, and it was nonsense to talk of aggression. “There arc now 42,000,000 Italians on our soil in addition to 10.000,000 overseas,” continued Signor Mussolini, and room must be found for more. Italy cannot expand in the west. Can wo be blamed if we turn our eyes to the Orient? I regard it as absolutely wrong to take colonics from Powers who have spent blood and money in doing pioneer work, but Italy is entitled to a share of the unoccupied territory.” A. and N.Z. Cable. PLACED IN AN ASYLUM. ROME, January 23. (Received Jan. 24, at 10 p.m.) Miss Violet Gibson has been released and taken to an asylum at Ccccano. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
