BRITISH LIBERALS

THE NEW COUNCIL. PRESERVATION OF INDEPENDENCE. fPres» Association—By Telegraph -Copyright.) LONDON, January 23. The Liberal Council has issued a statement that the Administrative Committee’s acceptance of Mr Lloyd George’s endowment entailed serious consequences to the party’s organisation, including a moral obligation towards the donor, which is apparently incompatible with the freedom of policy and judgment essential to healthy political action. The Liberal Council, alhtough not antagonistic to the existing organisations, remains independdent of the fund and the obligation attaching to its acceptance, but will work harmoniously as regards all Liberal cases. Sir William Plender has been appointed joint treasurer.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
