Negotiations with the supporters of Mr Loughlin were continued in the hope of bringing about a reconciliation within the Labour Party. Although no finality was received, many Labour officials are still confident that a method will be found for averting a general election. It is understood that informal discussions took place between Mr Goodin, Mr Gillies, and three members of the Federal Executive of the Australian Labour Party. The breakaways demand as a basis settlement the withdrawal of Mr Lang’s dictatorship, the permanent scrapping of Rod rules, and the removal of Mr Willis, vice-president of the Executive Council, and his secretary, Mr Voight, from the scene of political activities. AN AGREEMENT REACHED. SYDNEY, December 10. (Received Dec. 11, at 1 a.ta.) As a result of the negotiations there will not be an early election, the recalcitrants having apparently .come to a working agreement with the Government. EFFORTS TO AVOID ELECTION. SYDNEY, December 10. (Received Dec. 10, at 11.50 p.m.) The Labour caucus appointed a committee to' negotiate with Messrs Gillies and Goodwin in order to avoid an early election. Mr T. D, Mutch stated after the meeting that he thought the Government was safe and that there would not be an election. Mr Loughlin stood aloof from the negotiations
