DRAINAGE BOARD.

The report of the Works Committee of the Drainage Board contains the following clauses; — lour committee begs to recommend that in view of the fact that Messrs W, Muir and John Hitchcock have failed to' effect necessary repairs to boundary trap on drain-in-common situate w. Mr Hitchcock’s premises, No. 27 Council street. St. KLilda, the board now resolves to give notice to Messrs Muir and Hitchcock of the board a intention to execute the necessary repairs to the said boundary trap and to recover the cost of the works from Messrs Muir and Hitchcock. Authority has been granted the drainage engineer to proceed with the undermentioned works: —(a) Construction of 1150 ft of 21in stormwater sewer in Pitt street, between Heriot row and • teorge street, to replace the existing 15in and 18in combined drain which has collapsed, at an estimated cost of ±11700; (b) the construction of 1400 ft of bin foul sewer in Pitt street, between George street and Heriot row, at an estimated cost uf £7OO. this work io be carried out later on prior to the tar-sealing of the street by the City Council; (c) tne construction of 1000 ft of 12in sewer in Federick street, from the existing sewer at Clarendon street to George street, at an estimated cost of £750. This work forms part of the Pitt street works, but will not be put in hand until Later on. when the paving works in Frederick street are commenced ; (d) protection of the bottom and dies of part of the channel of Lindsay’s Crock, in Mr P. C. Neill’s property, in order to minimise the effect of scour, at an estimated cost of £252 ; (h) the reconstruction in 18in pipes of collapsed culvert in Lawrence street a in private property adjoining, togethed with reconstructing two mudtanks and relaying mudtank connections and one manhole, at a total estimated cost for the whole work of £364; (i) the completion of the stormwater drain in Prince Albert road, St. Kilda. between New street and Ray View road, at an estimated cost of £400; (j) the construction of stormwater and foul sowers in Arthur street in the vicinity of th Otago Bowling Green property, to replace the present sewers, which are in bad condition. The work comprises the provision of 329 ft of bin sewer and 9in stormwater drain and nine manholes, at an estimated cost of £705. A circular notice has been sent to all architects, builders, master plumbers, and drainers regarding the planning of the sanitary arrangements of dwellings. The object of the not" is to secure the cooperation of those concerned in planning sanitary installations in the matter of giving the earliest possible notice to the board of the proposed works so that the proposals mav be inspected the board before any building work is actually put in hand, and so avoid the possibility of subsequent alterations to design and consequent additional expense to the owner.
