PRIZES FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN. Throughout the whole of Otago and Southland a very lively interest is being taken in an Essay and Photo Competition arranged by Messrs Hugh and G. K. JNeiH, 93 George street. Some very fine cameras are ottered as prizes, and the lure of a possible win has induced hundreds of entries. Unfortunately the weather has been against the taking of photographs, and at the suggestion of many would-be entrants the closing date for both competitions has been extended until 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15. Results will be announced in the morning and evening papers on Friday, December 17. . Entry forms and rules are still obtainable, so that those who possibly have not heard of the competitions should make prompt application.—Advt.

Ballet dancing is becoming so popular among children that it is replacing the old-time lessons in ballroom dancing and deportment.
