MAORI TEAM IN FRANCE. VICTORY AT BORDEAUX. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) PARIS, December 5. The Maoris defeated a French fifteen by 13 points to 3. The Maori team was as follows: Phillips, Falswasser, Pelham, Matene, Barclay, Mete, Wineera, Bell, Love, Dennis, Wilson, Rika, Manihera, Robinson, S. Gemmell. The Maoris’ win by a dropped goal and three tries to a try marked the resumption of their French tour. The attendance was 12,000. The ground was dry. Early in the game Prance failed to take advantage of a free kick against the Maoris for obstruction. The latter resumed the attack, Phillips dropping a brilliant goal. Villa replied with a try, which was not converted. Jaurrcguy, who was a pillar of strength to the French, narrowly missed putting the Frenchmen ahead. Pelham scored an unconverted try for the Maoris, whose defence kept out vigorous French attacks. Jaurreguy ran brilliantly, but was pulled down. The half-time score was 7 to 3 in favour of the Maoris, In the second spell a general weakness in the French defence enabled Falswasser to score a try after a brilliant run, which Jaurreguy almost stopped. The tourists again attacked, and despite Dumanoir’s fine defence added a third unconverted try, winning the game through strong, fast running and speedy breaking up. Phillips was the outstanding player among the visitors, and France’s best players were Jaurreguy, Dumanoir, and Graciet.—A. and N.Z. Cable. Points Against. Result. For Against. Burgundy , ..
