It looks as though Red Wink is like yesterday—a thing of the past. Lady Cavendish looked well at Feilding, and, though defeated in the Stakes, she ran a good race, and should be at her best at Christinas time. Negotiations for the sale of Seatown have been proceeding for some time, and when they are completed Seatown might go into one of the Dominion’s leading stables. J. J. Kenncrley’s team to race at Wellington to-morrow will include Logan Chief, Peter Bingen, and Lee Todd, while Native Chief may contest the Champion Short Limit Stake on the concluding day. The Riccarton apprentice Rex Beale, whose services have been in demand during the past few mouths, lias been engaged to do the light-weight riding for Mr L. C. Hazlett at the holiday meetings. Cawnpore, who has been racing in Sydney for some months, was brought back to Auckland last week. The Thorn ran a remarkably good race in the Feilding Stakes. Mr Currie has a very strong team at the present time, and The Thorn will be a good stake-earner shortly. Seven from the stable are nominated at Auckland. Bracken Abbey, a winner at Taumarunui on Saturday, is spoken of as likely to show up again soon. This smart galloper is one of R. Hannon’s lengthy string. Rapier and Chickwheat have been nominated for both the Manawatu and Dunedin summer meetings, and their programme for the holiday meetings will depend on the imposts allotted them. Delightment has come very solid this season, for in his last six starts the son of Catmint has won five races and finished third on another occasion. In a mile and a. furlong race at Takapuna he came through at the top of the straight and won with ease. Indian Sage had every chance in the Feilding Cup, and his finishing effort was very disappointing. On the second day of the meeting the going was somewhat similar to the track conditions under which he won so easily at Otaki, yet he failed again. . Glenross made an exhibition of the field in the St. Andrew’s Handicap at Feilding going to the front at the start, never relinquishing the lead, and winning as he liked at the finish. The rain which had fallen overnight made the track to his liking, and he carried his 9.2 as though it were a feather-weight. When Piuthair won the Metropolitan Handicap at Riccarton last month she was receiving 151 b from Tanadees. who finished second. In the Auckland Cup Tanadees has to concede 141 b. an estimate which is all in favour of Piuthair. Mr R. A. M'Kenzic holds a very strong hand, as Clarincla is also in at the minimum. The better of his two mares will be hard to beat. , . On his creditable second placing to Royal Ceres in the Pioneer Handicap on the concluding day of the New Zealand Cup meeting. Money Peer’s prospects in the Spring Stakes at Timaru on Friday next will robably be considered most favourable by those who witnessed the colt’s performance on that occasion. Taboo’s track tasks ‘ were of a light order last week owing to his suffering from injuries to one of his legs, caused through ’ becoming entangled with a wire fence. He is making a speedy recovery, and should be in good order for the Timaru meeting. At the Apia Turf Club’s meeting on Saturday, October 30 (says the Samoan Gazette), the two chief races fell to Hon. O. F. Nelson’s pair, Loyal Irish and Ruperra. The New Zealand horse. Loyal Irish, conceded from _ Ist to 3st 41b to the other runners in his race, and he wonin a manner which suggested that he also could have carried two full sacks of copra and then have finished first. Rapine won the last Auckland Cup under 9.8, beating Count Cavour (8.13) by a head. A few weeks ago, in the New Zealand Cup, Count Cavour turned the tables on Rapine with only 61b between them. A few days later Rapine easily beat the Riccarton gelding in the Canterbury Cup. Rapine has to concede 41b in the Auckland Cup, which seems a fair S king Abbey has furnished wonderfully well since his recent trip to Australia, and A. E. Wormald has him in splendid condition to undertake forthcoming engagements. He was jumped over two hurdles at Riccarton one day last week, and gave a faultless exhibition. He will be raced at Timaru in the Otaio Hurdle Handicap, from which ’.is stable companion, Radiac, was withdrawn owing to being eased in his work for a few days, as a result of a slight injury suffered whilst exercising last week.
