HOUDINI’S COMPACT

SPIRIT MESSAGE TESTS. “NOT THE RIGHT WORDS.” NEW YORK, November 23. Dozens of mediums claim to have received messages from Houdini, who died recently, but the magician’s widow says none contains the key words agreed upon before his death. Mrs Houdini stated to-day that her husband made a compact to communicate, if possible, after death, with her, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and an unnamed friend in Philadelphia. Houdini gave his wife a ten-word message which she is keeping secret. The Scientific American publishes a message submitted ns a communication from Houdini by a medium in Brattleboro, Massachusetts, but the widow says it has not the right words. Hondini claimed that he could reproduce any of the spiritualists’ “spirit manifestations” by the ordinary magic of his profession.
