CORRUPT DETECTIVES

MELBOURNE “GRAFT” CASES. FOWLER SURRENDERS TO POLICE. MELBOURNE, December 5. . (Received Dec. '5, at 5.5 p.m.) Ex-detective Fowler has surrendered to the police, by whom he was charged with offences committed early last year in association with three other detectives. He was remanded till December 9. In July, 1925, Detectives Olholm, O'Sullivan, Fowler, and M'Porson were charged with having, on February 4, at Melbourne, conspired to obtain money unlawfully from Terence Callaghan, licensee of the Londonderry Hotel, with having on February 17 stolen £IOOO, the property of Callaghan, and with having, on February 12 and 17, demanded from Callaghan with menaces, £6500 with intent to steal. Olholm, M'Pherson, and O'Sullivan were found guilty, and sentenced to varying terms of imprisonment, but Fowler has been missing since the issue of the warrants.
