MINOR OFFENCES. Roger Kirby was fined 10s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenness. For allowing cattle to wander on Abbotsford road, John Turner, who had several previous convictions for similar offences, was fined 40s and costs (7s). Myles Walker was fined 5s and costs for not having his car properly lighted. For failing to render personal service under the Defence Act, Harry Richard Clarke was fined 30s and costs (Vs). MAINTENANCE. Ralph M'Nish pleaded guilty to disobedience of a maintenance order made in respect of his child, the arrears amounting to £B9 7s Id.—The Maintenance Officer (Mr T. Holland) proposed that the arrears should be cut down to £26. He asked that the defendant be ordered to report his movements. To this the defendant agreed.—The arrears over £25 weie remitted and defendant was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended as long as he paid the current order, 15s weekly and 5s a week off the arrears. He would also have to report daily to the police until the arrears were paid. REMANDS. William James Howard, who was charged with having wilfully damaged confectionery jars, chocolates, tumblers, etc, the property of Mrs V. Paterson, and also with using obsence language, and unlawfully resisting the police, was further remanded till Monday. Eric George Barlow waa charged with having assaulted Alexander Stewart. —In asking for a remand for a week, Detective Beer said that the assaulted man had some severe wounds in the head.—Accused was remanded for a week, the Magistrate stating that the application for bail could be made at any time. A middle-aged man represented by Mr Hanlon, was charged with the theft of a lawn mower and other articles of a total value of £8 Is, the property of Briscoe and Co.—Detective Beer asked for a remand for a week -and this was granted.— Accused’s name was suppressed in the meantime.
