THE NEW ZEALAND (NELSON) ALPINE AND ROCK GARDEN SOCIETY.

The above-named society has made great progress since it commenced its interesting botanical work in 1024, and its membership has steadily increased to nearly 000, spread over all parts of the Dominion. It has a great collection of rock garden plants under the care of Mr A. Wilkinson, hon. secretary and treasurer, and has recently ordered from England a largo addition to its stock. In addition to its ordinary collection of alpines and rockery plants, the society has a native section, in which at the present time a number of species of celmieia are in bloom. Veronicas also are looking well, and in their different varieties are coming into bloom daily. Mr Wilkinson goes out every week-end to collect mountain plants, and these are regularly forwarded to members. From June Ito the end of October no fewer than 15,000 plants were sent away, 10,000 to members and the balance to nurseries, all of those to members packed separately in moss and with name labels. All this means considerable labour and activity, and i' society is to be complimented on its work.
