OTAGO-SOUTHLAND SYNOD. -v; The annual Synod of Otago-Southland.--' Methodists will be held this year in Inver*" cargill, commencing next Wednesday with,'-,., the Ministerial Committee at -8.30 a.rn.' A; At 2.30 p.m. a communion service will he,.' held, at which the Rev. Hedley White,. of Balclutha, will deliver the address. The U full Synod of ministers and laymen will.. " assemble at 3 p.m. On Wednesday nighta welcome social will be held, and addresses,. will be given by the Mayor of Invercar-. gill and others. The Synod is expected-/, to complete its business by Thursday even-. -j ing. , There will be TO representatives, j : attendiig the Synod. Among the matters to he discussed will be the report of the ’ '* r W'elfare of the Church Committee, the report of the Young People's Board, which, sends forward for consideration several im-, ~ portant proposals; the report of the Tem—perance and Public Morals Committee, ,in which attention is drawn to the increase, ' of the wine-drinking habit at weddings and. other social functions. This committee also draws attention to the menace of gambling 1 in its various forms, and makes sugges- i tions in connection with Bible in Schools and the League of Nations. In addition, there is a long report in connection with the Methodist Theological College to be considered. The question of home and ■' foreign missions will receive considerable' attention. Deaconess, orphanage, and Methodist Times matters will be dealt with) ■' besides a large amount of which , ; closely affects Otago-Southland. It is very , , evident that the Synod will have a very 1 ' busy time while in session. _ Y
