In the last annual report of the Direc-tor-general of Agriculture it was stated that it had become urgently necessary to provide a special laboratory and an experimental facbtory as a necessary part of the dairy division. The staff at the present laboratory at Wallaceville carries out all investigations possible' for the division, but the many difficulties met' with in factory work, and by the divisions in instructors are considered by the department to render separate premises and staff necessary in order to enable the division to carry out its instructional services with complete efficiency. “This work,” said the Director-general in his report, “ has been authorised, and the sooner it can be carried out the better.” This afternoon the Minister of Agriculture stated that action in regard to the establishment of a special laboratory and experimental factory is being deferred until it is decided on what lines the Agricultural College Council will proceed with research in connection with the dairy industry at Palmerston North, where the Batchelor property is being acquired by the Government. It is expected that the Board of Agriculture will appoint its representative on the council within the next few days, and the names of the four Government nominees will be announced shortly.
