AUSTRAL-GIRTON CLUB.

The Austral-Girton Club held its final meeting for 1926 in the Constance Hall, Columba College on the ISth mat., when a large number of members was present. Ihe programme took the form of a literary sj inposium. The president. Miss Boss, M.A., led ofl with a selection from “The Tempest, one of Shakespeare’s plays, and a short extract from Milton’s “Paradise Lost. Mrs AValsh gave an admirable reading from “Heart of Midlothian,” and Miss Uutton a selection from “Pickwick Papers. The education of girls was dealt with by Miss Jones in a reading from "Sesame and Lilies,” and Mrs Primmer in selection from Anatolc France’s “The Crime of SjTvestcr Bonnard.” Miss Owen read from “’lnn Ordeal of Richard Feveriil,” and Mrs Williams a poem by Frances Thompson. More modern writers were represented in Hugh Walpole (read by Miss 11. Smith), Masefield, Yeats, and De La Mare ,by Mrs S. Cameron and the Misses Park), and Joseph Conrad (by Miss Stevenson). Miss J. Jones gave •A piano solo, and Mrs Moore a song, both items being much appreciated. There re mained the presentation of the Austral-Girton honours board. Money bad flowed in from past students all over the Dominion, and the two ladies who were so largely responsible for the quick success of the idea (Miss Wil son and Miss Macfie) were warmly thanked for their work Supper and general talk made the evening altogether most successful.
