STEMMING RED ADVANCE. HONGKONG REVOLT DENIED (Pres* Association—Bj Telegraph—Copyright.; PEKING, September 23. In a serious attempt to check the Reds General Sun Chuan-fang has commenced a drive alone. The northern reinforcements are being withheld for some inexplicable reason. General Wu Pei-fu is facing a crisis, owing to the revolts of subordinates. The fall of Manchang is confirmed. Red attempts to buy the surrender of Wuchang have been unsuccessful, and the siege continues. The remaining foreigners within the town are unharmed. A message from Hankow states that the vernacular press reports that Labour meetings are openly inciting anti-foreign feeling, and that trade is at a standstill.
