WORKING ON SUNDAY.

SEVEN LABOURERS FINED. (Pee United Pbess Association.) . WELLINGTON, September 24. Seven labourers employed by the Vacuum Oil Company were to-day fined £1 each for working at their calling on Sunday. ’ The defence was that the company was notified at short notice of the arrival of an oil tanker, and that there was no time to apply for a permit to work on Sunday. Th ework was necessary to enable the pipes to be laid across the road t othS- oil tanks, although the work was not work on the ship, nor strictly speaking work of a necessity. It was pleaded that it was not an ordinary case of violation of the statue.
