Tli-' monthly meeting of the executive of the Otago Importers ami Shippers’ Asso elation was held on Thursday evening, when Mr Henry Guthrie, was elected chairman for (ho year. Reference was made to hick of information available in regard to cargo from (he wrecked steamer Port. Kembla, and the secretary was instructed to write to the agents rei]iicsting that consignees he supplied with more definite information as to what cargo is coming forward, and when. The unsatisfactory position of the steamer service to Sydney and also to Auckland was discussed, and in view of the fact that it appeared impossible (n get the regular fortnightly service which bad been promised for the Sydney trade, the secretary was instructed to write again to the bead office of the Hnion Company, calling attention to the destructive effect upon trade occasioned by such uncertainly and irregular! tv.
Other mailers connected with claims for damage were considered and dealt with, and also (be question of a more satisfactory form of declaration for Custom-house purposes, the form recently brought into Use being considered nnilp unsuitable.
