OTAGO UNIVERSITY INTERFACULTY DEBATE.

On Thursday, tho 23rd, tho annual interfaculty debate was held in the women’s common room of the University, the subject being “That it would be in the best interests of- New Zealand education that there should be four independent universities.” Six teams competed, Representing the faculties of law, medicine, arts, home science, and commerce, and tho standard of debating was high. Tile judges—Professor Hewitson and Dr Fisher—complimented the society on the success of tho meeting, and stated that they had decided that the law faculty, represented by Messrs ITanan and Carson, had put up the host performance, and that homo science, represented by Miss Todhunte.r and Miss Wilkinson, wore second. As this debate is also a qualifying subject for the Master tournament, the four loading speakers were placed as follows:—Mr M. W. Wilson, Mr J. H. Rialhvorthy, Miss E. N. Tocllmnler, and Mr M.
