IMPERIAL CONFERENCE

OPEN DISCUSSION URGED. THE VALUE OF PUBLICITY. (Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, Septembe: 23. In emphasising thr.t the opening of the Imperial Conference is expected to synchronise with the launching of the Empire Marketing Board’s £1,000,000 scheme for advertising Empire goods, the political correspondent of he Daily News suggests that this effort to focus the attention of the British peoples of the dominions might be strengthened by partly opening the conference to the press. It declares that there is reason to believe that the British Government is not opposed to doing so. It is not contended that all the sessions ought to be open, but the paper thinks there should be no difficulty about the inaugural and closing sessions. The riewspaper urgej that other subjects might be openly debated. This would add fresh interest in the eyes of the nations of the world, and would be better than the present bald communiques and flat, chilly, and almost unreadable reports. Sydney Sim Cable. CANADIAN REPRESENTATION. MR MACKENZIE KING TO ’ TTEND. OTTAWA, September 23. It is announced that Mr Mackenzie King will attend the Imperial o-.fcrence in response to the demand of many of his supporters, although he had t intended to do so.
