MAORI TEAM IN FRANCE. AN ATTRACTIVE DISPLAY. (Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright.) PARIS, September 2-. At Aziznon, the Maori Rugby team beat a littoral team by 2D points to 8. The game was hotly contested, but the Maoris were not extended. Barclay opened the scoring in the first spell with a try, and he added another two tries before half-time, two of which were converted by Potaka. For the littoral team Ferigoule kicked a penalty goal, and Porachias scored a try which Ferigoule converted. Play was of a higher standard in the second half, when a fine display of Rugby was witnessed. Barclay could not be stopped, and he scored another three tries while Robinson also scored a try. Potaka converted two. There was a largo attendance, which greatly admired the Maoris’ skill, team work, speed .and vigour, and their quickness in profiting from their opponents’ mistakes, resulting in constant posse' ion of the ball. Barclay was easily the most prominent, while Bell and Phillips also played a magnificent game. The Maoris were given an enthusiastic reception. They visited the Palace of the Popes and other famous local scenes. The team will play at Lyons on Sunday, and will meet probably the best regional combination that could be assembled. It will include the army internationals, Mathon and Devaureix, and two International forwards, Piquiral and Etchebcrry. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
