THE DUTCH MUTINY

EVIDENCE OF ANTI-MILITARISM. ARMY DISCIPLINE THREATENED. (Presi Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) THE HAGUE, September 22. The mutiny is one of several deplorable incidents in recent months. The small number of casualties is due to a majority of the Guards Regiment, when the commander ordered them to fire refusing, while others fired high, the bullets lodging in the roofs of the houses. The only death was that of a sergeant, who was looking on from a distance. The mutineers fled, but returned to barracks at night time, when several were arrested. It is pointed out that the mutiny was due to the growing Dutch anti-militarist movement, in connection with which the Democratic Labourites held their annual disarmament demonstration on September 20. The conference was attended by 80,000 persons. . The Handelsblatt declares that the revolutionaries are systematically breaking down 'the army’s discipline. Their methods constitute a grave danger to the young conscripts.—The Times.
