ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir. —The system of selecting players to represent Otago is evidently wrong, and requires instant alteration if Otago is to do any good on its northern tour. I advise the O.F.A. to follow the footsteps of Auckland and appoint a sole selector, and I suggest Mr T. Ruddiman. On Saturday’s display it is apparent that if Otago hopes to win the coveted Knglish trophy a different side will have to bo selected. The larger playing area and the pace found out Otago's weak spots, and it is a case of “off with the old and on with the new.” To heat Canterbury or Auckland on their own grounds Otago will require young, bustling, well-trained fast players, who can “go” from start to finish. 1 suggest the following players be taken in hand by an expert trainer with a view to their final .selection: —Goalkeepers, Holden (Technical) and Braham (Mornington) : backs—J’iddfe (Mornington). I’rydc f0.8.H.5.), and Trcvathan (Southern); half-backs —Hector (Technical). Chapman (0.8.H.5.), Morrow (Technical), and L. Johnson (Mornington) : forwards —Duncan (0.8.H.5.), Simmonds (Scacliff), Cook (Southland). Proctor (Southern), M'Cormack , (Kaitangata), and Jones (Southern). —1 am, etc., P. BR.UTinV.UTE.
