Great excitement prevailed in Queen street, Onehun’ga, on a recent afternoon (reports the New Zealand Herald), when a steer broke loose from a herd and careered wildly up the street, injuring a pedestrian. Mr Samuel Jackson, who received a bad cut on the leg necessitating several stitches. The animal finally -ad to be sho . The steer was one of a herd of °. r , 50 signed from Hokianga to Westfield. They were being unloaded from the Waiotahi at Onehunga wharf. The steer which was the largest in tho mob, evaded the drovers and galloped up Queen street, scattering pedestrians right and left. Mr Jackson sustained his injury through being knocked down. The police joined in the Phase. Efforts to capture the animal failed, and it, was finally cornered in Civ ’ street, about a mile from the wharf, nd was shot. .
