The Kahika sailed last night for Oamaru, Timaru, and Lyttelton to complete loading for Napier and Gisborne. The Waipori sailed last night for Timaru to complete loading for Westport and Greymouth. She trill load at the West Coast ports next week for Bluff and Dunedin. The Calm Is now expected at Dunedin today from Wanganui, via ports, to discharge general cargo. She is to sail to-morrow for Bluff, and will return here on Tuesday to load for Timaru. Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Breeze Is due here on Sunday, from Lyttelton, and sails on Monday evening for Timaru. Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. The Katoa left Auckland late on Wednesday night with general cargo for discharge at Wellington, Lyttelton. and Dunedin. She Is due here on Tuesday next. The Kaituna has been fixed to load at Adelaide early in June tor Auckland. The Hurunui, which loaded at various New Zealand ports, left Wellington on Wednesday morning for Glasgow, Liverpool. Manchester, and Avonmouth, via Panama. The Union Company’s steamer Poolta arrived at Wellington on Wednesday from Melbourne. The vessel was to sail yesterday for New Plymouth and Timaru to complete discharge of her Australian cargo. Cargo discharged from the Marama at Wellington this week included transhipments ex the following vessels:—City of Manchester Carignano, Mailing, Ormonde, Orsova, Queda. Sonoma. Changte, Chitral, Houtman, Mooltan. Panama. Aachen, Aki Maru, Ville de Verdun, Barrabool, Hokkah Maru, City of Palermo, Kokiri. and Hobson’s Bay.

The oil tanker Tascalusa sailed from San I-iiis on May 12 with a cargo of fuel oil for Wellington. The vessel is due at the northern port on June 7. The Kairanga. from South Australian yiorts, Is due at Wellington on Sunday. She will complete discharge at Auckland. To complete her loading for Home, the Shaw-Savlll cargo steamer Matakana was due at Wellington last evening from Gisborne, and is timed to sail finally from Wellington on June 2 for London, via Montevideo and Teneriffe.

The Port Curtis arrived at Lyttelton on Wednesday from Bluff to lift cargo for London. She will continue loading at New Plymouth and Wellington, and finish at Auckland.

The C. and D. Line steamer Rort Hardy arrived at Wellington yesterday from Lyttelton to load for New York, Boston, and London. The vessel will leave Wellington tomorrow for Walkokopu and Auckland to complete loading. The Swayne and Hoyt Line steamer West Henshaw Is expected to arrive at Auckland to-day from Pacific Coast ports. The West Henshaw. which has 3030 tons of cargo, including timber, case oil, and general merchandise. for discharge at Auckland. will proceed hence to Wellington and Melbourne to complete discharge. The Shaw, Savin, and Albion Line steamer lonic was to leave Timaru yesterday for Auckland and Wellington to complete loading. The vessel is due at Wellington on June 4. and will sail finally from that port at daybreak on June 10 for Southampton and London, via Panama Canal.

PORT NAPIER DUE TO-MORROW. Messrs J. W. Swift and Co. advise that the C. and D. Line steamer Port Napier Is due at Port Chalmers to-morrow from Auckland to discharge a large quantity of London cargo. The vessel will sail early next week for New Plymouth to complete discharge. CANADIAN CHALLENGER AT MONTREAL. The Canadian Challenger arrived at Montreal on May 22 from Auckland, via New Tork and Boston. The vessel sailed from Auckland on April 3. RUAHINE LEAVES PANAMA. Cable advice received by the New Zealand Shipping Company states that the Ruahine, which left Southampton on May 7 for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Port Chalmers, cleared Panama on May 24. The vessel is due at Wellington on June 14. HERTFORD’S ITINERARY. The Federal Line advises that the steamer Jlertford is due at Auckland about June 7 from Liverpool, via Panama. She will subsequently proceed to Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, and Bluff to complete discharge. The Hertford will afterwards load at Timaru, Lyttelton, Wanganui roadstead, Wellington, Gisborne, and Auckland She will sail finally from Auckland about August 3 for Genoa, London, and West Coast ports of the United Kingdom. MAHANA’S MOVEMENTS. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Companv advises that the Mahana will leave Auckland to-morrow for Wellington, in continue tion of her voyage from Liverpool. Th“ vessel is to sail from Wellington on June S for Lyttelton and Port Chalmers to com plete discharge. The Mahana will subsequently load at Port Chalmers, Bluff, Tim aru, and Wellington.- The vessel is scheduled to sail finally from Wellington on July 1 for London, via Montevideo and Teneriffe. DEVON’S LOADING PORTS. The Federal Line steamer Devon, which towed the disabled steamer Eastern Moon to Sydney, is due at New Plymouth at the end of the week to commence Homeward loading. Her other loading ports are Nel son, Wanganui roadstead, Lyttelton, "Wellington, Napier, Waikokopu, Gisborne, and Auckland. The Devon is scheduled to. sail finally from Auckland on June 30 for London, Antwerp, and West Coast ports of the United Kingdom.

The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Ruapehu, which arrived at Port Chalmers on Wednesday evening from London and Southampton, via Panama and Wellington, came to Dunedin yesterday afternoon, She was berthed at the Victoria wharf, where the local portion of her Home cargo will be discharged. The Ruapehu loaded cargo at London and left there on April 15 for Southampton, where passengers were embarked and mails taken aboard. Departure was taken from Southampton at 1.55 p.m. on Ann! 16, and for the first three days heavy westerly weather was experienced. The weather then moderated, and continued fine until arrival at Panama at 4 a.m. on May 2. The ship passed through the canal during the day and arrived at Balboa at 3.30 p.m. The passengers went ashore for a few hours, and the Ruapehu sailed at 10.30 p.m. Fine weather was experienced across the Pacific, but on nearing the New Zealand coast-1 eavy westerly wales were encountered. The motor vessel Oakbank (5200 tons gross;, which has been built by Harland and Wolff (Ltd.), Govan, for the Bank Line, Ltd. (Andrew Weir and Co.), has been delivered to her owners. Built to Lloyd's highest class, she is 434 ft long by 53ft 9in broad by 37fl deep. SCARCITY OF FOG SIGNALS. A delegation to the Deputy-Director ot Navigation in Sydney recently on the subject of the scarcity of fog signals on the Australian coast stressed the many benefits that would accrue to shipping by the installs , tion of direction finding stations on shore, and of wireless compasses in ships. Captain E. Moodie-Heddle. master of the steamer Katoomba, a member of the delegation, stated that some years ago a wireless compass was installed in his ship, that many experiments were conducted with ships at sea, and that the apparatus had been found to be very exact for reasonably short distances. He further stated that the recent bush fires and subsequent haze on the coast had brought home to him all the more forcibly the necessity for installing direction finding stations on shore, and equipping ships with the wireless compass, pointing out that there had been one or two very close “shaves” lately. Captain Heddle, in bringing the matter under notice, expressed the hope that the Navigation Department would see fit to do something to install at least a few direction finding stations.
