ASSISTED IMMIGRATION.
TO TOT EDITOR, Sir,— The Rev. Canon Grant-Cowan, preaching in St. Matthew’s Church, Auckland, eaid that, the Unemployed Association of that city had reported there waa upwards of 600 men requiring assistance, many of them with large families The position in Wellington is quite as bad, i! not worse, whilst Christchurch, Dunedin, and even Invercargill are faced with the unemployment problem. Yet, in to-day's cable. Lord ■ Inohcape suggests that large numbers of miners and their families could be assisted to suitable employment in the dominions, and further says that well-paid, suitable employment is actually awaiting men in many districts of New Zealand. 1 have no doubt the various Charitable Aid Boards throughout the Dominion would be much obliged if the noble lord would name the districts where this employment is to be found. 1 presume it is merely a coincidence that, II large numbers of miners and their families were sent overseas, they would be tran«norted in Lora Inchcnpe's ships. Would lordship carry them for nothing . I don t think 80., Nad the editor of the Sunday Times been as shrewd as Lord Inchcape he would have printed his lordship s article under the shipping advertisements and made him pay for it.—l am, etc.. MtßSia Watch. Dunedin, May 25.
