KENDALL STRING QUARTET.

FAMOUS INSTRUMENTALISTS. One of the most interesting events of the musical season will be the visit of the Kendall String Quartet, four lady instrumentals from England, who will give a series of three chamber concerts in the Burns Hall, under the direction of Mr E. J. Gravestock, to-night, Saturday, and Monday night Highly esteemed in Great Britain, where they have played since the inception of the quartet five years ago, these brilliant young artists have achieved a remarkable triumph in playing their way round the world with astounding success. Prior to coming to New Zealand, they visited Ceylon, the Malay Peninsula, and Java. In the last country, where instrumental music is of a very high standard, they played with such conspicuous success that they have been warmly invited to make a return tour. The London Times says, “They bring to everything . they play real musicianship. The Schubert A minor was a beautiful thing from the first note to the last, and they often —in the theme of the finale for instance —had conspired together to produce a piece of rhythmic inter pretation which was quite their own, and yet inevitable.” Their success throughout other centres of New Zealand has been sensational. So groat has been the demand to hear them that return concerts had to be arranged, and private concerts in the principal schools and colleges have had to bo given. The artists who comprise the quartet are Miss Katherine Kendall (first violin), Miss Dorothy Brook (second violin). Miss Dorothy Jones (viola), and Miss Edith Hanson (’cello). To-night’s programme will include : String Quartet in B flat, opus 18. No. 6 (Beethoven) ; String Quartet in F (Nigger). (Dvorak): String Quartets, “The Lonely Shepherd,” “Puck,” (Speaight), “The Dhu Lock,” and “Red Murdoch” (M’Ewen). The box plans are at The Bristol, where students’ concessions may also be obtained.
