GOLF.

Bt Divot. Saturday last was an atrocious day, and the committee acted wisely in postponing the semi-finals of the Otago Club championship and the matches in the third round of the Baltnacewen Cup. These matches will be played next Saturday, and all should be very interesting. Only two members braved the elements on Balmacewen on Saturday last. Needless to say they were of the youths’ division, and they were thoroughly saturated. The North Otago Club are getting a report on the new course which they recently acquired at Cape Wanbrow Hood, the Miramar Club’s professional. nd Captain Conway are to inspect and report. There has always been the feeling amongst a section of the members that the course was far too strenuous, and it seems a very wise thing for the club to make sure 4hat they have the right ground before incurring further expense on it, particularly as they have the handsome sum of £6300 — their share in the art union—to devote to improvements to the course. The golf season is in full swing in the Old Country, both amateurs and professionals being well cattred for with plenty of championships and tournaments. Summer conditions prevail at present, and when we read of scores well down in the 70'b we have to remember that their greens will he nicely clothed with their summer growth of grass. The Daily Mail Tournament .vas won by Aubrey Boomer, of St. Cloud, Paris with a score for the four rounds of 297. Mitchell and Duncan tied for second place with 300. The conditions during the fourth round were made exceptionally had owing to torrential rain, which flooded the links. Under the circumstances, to come through the four rounds with an average of 1 over 74’s was a great performance on Boomer’s part. Mitchell and Duncan are never far awav from the leaders at the finish, and their averages of 75 ner round was no poor performance. As only the three aforementioned players and Robson had anv chance after the end of the third round the majority of the professionals have evidently not vet struck form. Only about, four weeks remain between now and the nnen ehnrnpionships.
