AUCKLAND’S UNEMPLOYED.

PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION. (P&b United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 6. About 300 men, some of whom were not unemployed, gathered at the Labour Department’s office this morning. A man on a lorry, addressing them, emphasised how badly they wanted work, and called on the unemployed to fall in tor a march from Queen street to Civic Square. About 100 men took part in the march. At a subsequent meeting it was stated that the Mayor had said that he could not receive a deputation on account of the stress of business. Later, a deputation waited on the City Council’s Works Committee, which promised that the matter would be considered by the council next week. It was pointed out by the chairman of the Works Committee that the council had no unemployment fund, and that difficulty was already being experienced in finding work for all the council’s workmen.
