During election rioting at Herrin, Illinois, the Chief of Police and four members of the Ku Klux Klan were killed. The militia was called out to suppress the rioting.—Sydney Sun Cable. DETAILS OF ENCOUNTER. A DESPERATE FIGHT. NEW YORK, April 13. (Received April 14, at 5.6 p.m.) Several machine-guns were used and many shots were exchanged between the Ku Klux Klan and anti-Klansmen. Two bus loads of anti-Klansmen drove up to the Masonic Hall to vote and within a minute they were fighting with the Klansmen gathered there. The Klansnien made a last stand at the garage where four of their number were killed. This garage was the centre of a similar fight in August, 1924, when seven Klansmen were killed.—Sydney Sun Cable. SIX PERSONS SHOT DEAD. TROOPS' RUSHED TO TOWN. NEW YORK, April 13. (Received April 14, at 9.30 p.m.) A telegram from Herrin states that six men were shot dead and another is near death as the result of a renewal of the factional trouble late on Tuesday. The dead comprise a former chief of police, two constables, and three deputy sherriffs. State troops were rushed to the scene of the rioting and it is likely that the city will be placed under .martial law. Troops are guarding the .homes of two Ku Klux Klan clergymen where the trouble started. No arrests are reported. —Reuter.
