At the monthly meeting of the City Women’s Christian Temperance Union It was reported that the street sale held on March 30 had resulted In the required sum being raised for the organising fund. A letter from the Minister of Internal Affairs explained that the pledge given to the effect that no art unions over the value of £SOO would In future be permitted did not apply to those for which applications had already been received. It was stated this pledge would not become operative until March, 1927. Mrs Hiett reported upon the recent functions of the 1.0.G.T. conference, which she had attended upon Invitation. Much appreciation was expressed of the manner in which Mrs W, R. Don had presided over the Dominion Union for the last 12 years. Mrs Don has now retired, her place having been taken by Mrs T. E. Taylor. The announcement that Mrs Hiett had been elevated to the position of chief vice-president of New Zealand was received with applause. A ' remit from the National Council of Women was confirmed. Professor Kraepelin, of world-wide renown, had "proved that a man who had taken a fluid ounce of alcohol had to approach within 20ft in order to read letters he had half an hour before read at a distance of 30ft. This effect lasted about live hours after the drink.” The superintendent stated that the number of babies taken charge of at the creche on Easter Saturday was 118, the same number being left on Monday. The total now exceeded 2300. There was a good attendance of members at the fortnightly meeting of Court Pride of the Leith, A.0.F., when the C.R., Bro. W. J. Duncan, was in charge. An invitation was accepted to visit Court Bruce, Milton, on April 24. The C.R. welcomed visitors from Invercargill and Roxburgh, and gave the usual toast. This was heartily responded to by P.D.C.R. Bro. A. W. Jones, P.C.R. Bro. W. R. Leek, and S.W. Bro. MacGregor, of Court Star of the South. P C.R. Bro. A. Ridd, of Court Roxburgh, and P.C.R. Bro. W. Himmel, of Court Enterprise. Brothers C. S. Hawes, R. H. Rutherford, S. M. Munro. C. C. Robertson, and the C.R., who were delegates to the recent district meeting, submitted their reports thereon, and were thanked for them. The D.S.C.R., Bro. T. E. M’Natty, the D.S., Bro. J. K. Macfie, and the D.W., Bro. R. S. Vercoe, also spoke on the annual meeting. The congratulations of the members were extended to the newly-elected D.S.C.R. and D.W. Two new members were admitted, and the nominations of four candidates were received prior to the close of the meeting. The Baptist Young Women’s Bible Class Camp was held at St. Leonards, an ideal spot for such a camp, which was bright and breezy from start to finish. Fortyfour girls were present, representing Otago Bible classes. Mrs Bardsley was a considerate camp mother, and gained the love of all the girls, whilst Miss Pearce, of Caversham, was a popular “auntie," in charge of the culinary department. The camp motto was “Forget Self,” and no grumble was heard if the straw beds were not as springy as might be desired. ’the Rev. C. Lallaston judged the impromptu speeches, and gave the trophy to Miss Doris Haworth, of Roslyn. This is the second year in which the Roslyn class has won this trophy, a silver rose bowl presented by Mr A. Stewart. The sports were held on Saturday afternoon. Caversham class carried off the shield for highest points. In the evening the members gave a very enjoyable concert. The Bible circles each morning, a missionary meeting on Friday afternoon, addressed by Mrs Whiteside, and the services on Sunday supplied the spiritual side of the camp activities, and were greatly appreciated.
