BOXING.
PURDY VERSUS MURRAY. The Otago Boxing Association is to be commended for its enterprise in staging the Purdy—Murray contest as it gives promise of eclipsing any previous eon tost yet staged under its auspices. Both contestants have been doing solid training during the few days at tbeir respective training quarters, and at each session a large number of interested supporters are present. In his work yesterday Purdy shqivred cleverness in defence and also that he is able to assimilate punishment. He can also punch with accuracy and speed. He looks in the pink of condition, and Murray lice never been more fit than he is at present. There was a keen demand for reserves at the Bristol yesterday, when the box plan was opened. The pit and stalls day sales are at Jacobs, tobacconist, to-day.
