Scotsmen all the world oyer will on Monday be celebrating the birth of Scotland’s bard, Robert Bums. Bom 169 years ago, of proud though poor parents, Burns during his short life left poetical works that raised him almost to the height of a god in true Scottish hearts. Among his poems, too numerous to mention, ‘The Cotter’s Saturday Night,” and his love songs ‘‘To Mary in Heaven” and ”Oh a’ the Airts” and that universal parting “Should Auld Acquaintance bo Forgot” will always live. No one had the gift like Burns of drawing human hearts with his inspiring, sympathetic works. The Dunedin Bums Club will celebrate the anniversary by a grand concert in His_ Majesty’s Theatre. Mr W. Farquhar Young, ot Christchurch, and Miss Elspeth Denholm, of Oamaru,. have boem specially engaged to entertain on this occasion. Mr Farquhar Young, a few years back, was Dunedin’s popular vocalist and elocutionist, and ho is sure to receive a hearty welcome. His interpretation and artistry places him in the front rank of singers of Scottish songs. Miss Elspeth Denholm comes to ns fresh from tuition from the best masters in Aus tra.lia, and a treat may be looked forward te. Mr J. B. Thompson, elocutionist, will delight his audience with his Scotch humour. Wo shall also have such noted artists as Mbs D. Skinner, Messra J. Wallace, C. C. Scott, S. G.
