POLICY OF BRITISH RAILWAYS. PURCHASE OF SLEEPERS. (frees Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, January 13. It is stated that the London, Midland, and Scottish Railway Company has ordered 24,000,0C0ft of British-Columbian Douglas fir for sleepers. This marks the °P®i" ing of the nww policy of the British railways confining their purchases to British manufacturers and Empire material wherever possible. The railways spend collectively £40,000,000 annually, covering approximately 50,000 different materials. The new policy is expected to greatly increase Empire trade.—Sydney Sun Cable.
