LAUNCH IN A GALE. HON. MR BULLARD'S EXPERIENCE. (Per Unithp Pecss A9soctatiojm HAMILTON. October 27. On Saturday the Hon. K. F. Bollard had an exciting experience. From T uakau ho set off for Port Waikato in Mr Walter Diven’s launch. Heavy rain way. falling, the wind on tho river was blowing to a gale, and the tide was flowing in at terrific speed. Off Waihora Fie little craft struck very heavy seas ami nearly stood on end, providing involuntary baths for tho passengers. The speed for an hour was little, and the launch was a perfect switchback railway. The unenviable experience was heightened when the launch stuck on a shoal. There lor a brief space she was la died hy the waves romping in from the he;:<!s. At length the- splendid seamanship of Mr Diven prevailed; the launch flniied off (he shoal and again tackled her journey. Until she reached the jetty she was heavily Inlfited, hut berthing was accomplished hy deft handling. Mr Bollard, sneaking of (he experience of tho parly, paid the highest tribute to tin seamanship of Mr Diven, who worked wonders with the launch in the heavy weather.
