A FAMOUS ELEVEN
GREATEST CRICKETERS IN HISTORY. WARNER’S FANCIFUL SELECTION. Press Association—By Telegraph—-Copyright LONDON, September 12. (Received Sept. 13, at 5.5. p.m.) Acting on the fantastic suggestion of a correspondent that he should select an eleven from the cricketers of all time to play an imaginary match against the Martians, Warner, in the Morning Post, says: “I would begin by selecting bowlers, and would choose Barnes, Spofforth, Lockwood, and Lehmann. I would select Irilley as wicket-keeper. The others would be Grace, Hobbs, Ranjitsinhji, Trumper, Clem. Hill, and Hirst. Such magnificent cricketers as Steel, Noble, Jackson, Fry, Shrewsbury, Mas Laron, Tate, Woolley, Foster, Macartney, Bardsley, Turner, and Tyldesley are not selected because I must choose eleven only. Many would bo inclined to include Noble, for he was not only a fine all-rounder but a great captain, and quite a match for tho silent, astute leader of the Martians, who are reputed to possess a shrewd brain inside a huge head.”—A. and N.Z. Cable.
