ANGERSTEIN SENTENCED TO DEATH. CALM ACCEPTANCE OF VERDICT. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyrignt. BERLIN, July 13. (Received July 14, at 9 p.m.) Angerstein was sentenced to death, whereupon he said he accepted the verdict. Ho agreed that his madness could only be expiated by death. —A. and N.Z. Gable. In December last eight persons were found murdered at the home of Herr Angerstein, the manager of a large quarrying company near Siegen, and Angerstein himself was found lying wounded and unconscious. His wife lay dead on the floor with 18 knife wounds. The crime was mysterious as well as ferocious, and at first it was suspected to be the work of a gang of 20 youths. Fingerprint evidence, however, sheeted the crime home to Angerstein and he later confessed that he had committed the murder in order to cover up financial difficulties. Dramatic scenes marked the opening of the trial early this month. Angerstein calmly described bow he stabbed some of the victims and chased and killed others with a chopper. He admitted that he had lived happily with his wife. Counse. read a letter written by the wife before her death, in which she said, “Make a grave for me in some quiet spot, with a place for you beside me, and when I am gone love her still who was true ;o you till death.” There was scarcely a dry eye in court after the letter nad been road, but Angerstein listened unmoved.
