RUM-RUNNING

♦ THE LATEST SENSATION. PROMINENT PERSONS ARRESTED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Cppyrighv NEW YORK, July 13. (Received July 14, at 8.30 p.m.) Mr John Madden, Mayor of San Rilito, a suburb of San Francisco, has been indicted on a charge of rum-running. Other officials of the municipality and the State Government are also involved in this latest scandal which is causing a sensation. Several members of wealthy and prominent families are also said to be involved as suspected loaders of a gang engaged in illicit liquor dealings. The charges are the outcome of the recent blowing up of the liquor supply ship Comet and the killing on the same day of Mae GaTaclu, a wealthy Italian. Her body was found on the beach which had evidently been the scene of a battle between rival gangs of rum-runners. — Sydney Sun Cable.
