DEMONSTRATION IN PEKING STBIKE EXTENDS TO FOOCHOW. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. PEKING, June 10. The students to-day are holding a big demonstration, compelling the carts, rickshaws, and other vehicles to carry antiforeign flags. They are also distributing anti-toreign literature. The Foreign Office requested the Italian Minister, who is the senior representative, to advise the legations that their nationals would bo wise to avoid the demonstrations. It is understood that the Minister replied that if the Government had any doubts as to the outcome of the demonstration, it should prohibit it. A students’ demonstration and a general strike has commenced at Foochow. The situation is quiet, but strained. The foreigners in Canton have evacuated the danger zone safely.—Reuter. DEMANDS OF MALCONTENTS. RESTORATION OF CONCESSIONS. PEKING, June 10. (Received June 11, at 7.10 p.m.) Students and pupils from the American missionary institutions arG picketing all the streets and practically compelling Chinese pedestrians each to contribute 30 cents towards flic support of the Shanghai strikers. , A demonstration of students, workers, and others at the city gate, numbering 75,000 persons, carried resolutions urging the Government to send troops to Shanghai to take hack the foreign concessions, and recall the British and Japanese Consuls. Five thousand demonstrators subsequently marched to the I oreign Ministry, where deputations presented these resolutions. Dissatisfied with the_ Ministers’ replies they smashed several windows and did other damage. They then visited Tnan-Chi-jui and made similar demands and received a promise that they would be placed before Cabinet to-morrow. No attempts have been made so far to molest any foreigners in Peking. — Reuter.
