BETTING IN HOTELS.
WARNING TO LICENSEES. (Per United Press Association.! ELTTIAM, Juno 10. A warning fo licensees that they must not permit bookmakers to frequent (heir promises or transact business was _ issued by the Incensing Committee at its annual meeting. Sergeant Henry saiil he would not mention specific hotels, but. ho asked tho committee to give a wanting. The chairman (Mr Mowleni, S.M.) said that in New Zealand bookmakers were not existent, but Ibis was pure supposition. The sergeant s complaint was no surprise, ns such happenings were common knowledge. A little reflection was needed by licensees to realise the risk they were running, not of Itcing caught or in being involved with “bookies.” but of losing their licenses if they permitted bookmakers to carry on business on their promises. J'he commit too endorsed tho sergeant’s warning.
