FREEZING WORKS’ DISPUTE.
CHARGE AGAINST WORKERS A NONSUIT ENTERED. (Fe» United Piiess Association.) GISBORNE, June 10. As a sequel to the alleged refusal of butchers employed at the T okomaru Bay Freezing Works on February 28 to work overt inn- unless paid double rates, 16 men were ( hinged this morning at Tokoinarn Bay with participating in a strike. The inspector ot factories claimed a £3 penalty from eaeh. The inspector stated that the men were asked, to work overtime to clean up a mqh of sheep, but declined to do so unless paid double time, the award specifying time and a-half. The sheep had to be sent back to the slalion. George Fitzgerald, one of the defendants and the men's delegates, said that the men had asked for double rales, but. had not demanded it. At. this stage the inspect™ of factories announced that under the eircumstanees he could see there was insufficient evidence to substantiate llio charges, and asked for a nonsuit, which was omered.
