CARRYING A REVOLVER.
A YOUTH FINED. (Fbom Ode Own Cobhespondent.) WELLINGTON, June 9. A youth named Albert J. Everett pleaded guilty here to-day to the charge of having an unregistered firearm in his possession. Chief-detective Kemp emphasised tho fact that there was no need for a man to carry a revolver in this country. The defendant, who was 19 years of age, was discovered by Detectives Murray and Sinclair about 8.30 o’clock last night at the Caledonian Hotel in possession of tho revolver and one cartridge. His home was searched, and five other live cartridges which fitted the revolver -were found. The weapon was in a state of disrepair, though it was capable of being fired. The Magistrate (Mr W. G. Riddell); What explanation »did he offer? “None,” replied the chief-detective, who added that the defendant said he got it from another youth three weeks ago. “I don’t say bo liad any sinister object,” ho Ba id- “This is the second case that has come before the court in a fortnight.” Defendant, he added, was before the court as a juvenile for theft from a post office box. His Worship warned the defendant of tho risk he was talcing by carrying such a Weapon, and imposed a. fine of £2, in cle--fault seven days’ imprisonment on the first charge. and convicted and , discharged him on the second. The weapon and car- 1 fridges were confiscated.
