TRENTHAM SCHOLARSHIP WAR FUND.
The Executive Committee of the Trontham Scholarship War Fund has issued its fifth annual report covering the operations of the fund for the 12 months ended or. March 51 last. Applications foi 171 bursaries were locoived and dealt with at meetings in December last, and the awaros applicable during the year were 104 renewals (£2455) and 61 new awards (£1315). Six applications were declined. The following is a classified statement of the awards made; —107 to children of deceased men.' £3600 ; 53 to children of partially or wholly disabled men, £1050; five to children of men who served overseas, £l2O. Since the awards wore made it was found necessary for various reasons, and sometimes at the request of the applicant, to cancel 11 grants, totalling £265. The amount available annually over a . period of 20 years is £2840 10s, and the sum actually awarded exceeded this amount by £930. This was made possible by the generous assistance of the Canteen and Regimental Trust Fund Board, which has allotted the sum of £IOOO per annum for the next ten years for the purposes, oi Trontham bursaries, but even with this generous assistance the executive found it necessary on account of the largo increase in the number of applications to reduce the individual amounts and to limit the maximum awards to £SO Assets of the fund are Cash in hand and at bank, £296; cash on deposit with the Public Trustee, £33,965. During the year the sum of £3477 was paid to bursars. The income from the fund by way of interest was £1679 11s sd. This augmented by the donation of £IOOO from the Canteen and Regimental Trust Fund" Board leaves a deficit of £IO3B 17s 7d, representing excess of expenditure over income for the year.
