COLLIE DOG TRIALS.
WAITIKMO COUNTY CLUB. The 22rul annual sheep (log trials of the ■\Vaihemo County Collie Club were held at Dunback on May 27, 2S, and 29. The following are the entries and prizewinners:— CLASS I.; OPEN AND MAIDEN HEADING. ;i:i entries —Open event: A. Henderson’s Tiny Moon, 35 points, 1; J. Anderson’s Roy, 34 points, 2; It. A. Dixon’s Don .Tun., 33 points, 3; 11. A. Dixon’s Rain, 32 points, 1. Maiden event: J. Andrew’s Mae, 30 points, 1; D. Young’s Help, 20 points, 2; D. Parkhill’s Tiki, 31 points, 3; K. O’Counell’s Neil, 10 points, 4. CLASS IV.: OPEN HUNTAWAY. IS entries —A. Kennedy’s Jock, 20 points, 1; J. Anderson’s Flag, 33 points, 2; D. Mathieson’s Dick, 31 points, 3; G. Coutts s Jack, 30 points, 4. The M’Lennan Memorial Cup for the dog scoring the most points in Classes 1 and 3, to be won three years, not necessarily in succession, was won for the third time by A. Parkhill. Mr A. D. Beil’s cup for best mustering team of three dogs, two huntaways, and one heading in Classes 2 and 4 was won by A. Henderson. The I’. M’Leo'.l Memorial prize for the dog scoring the most pouits in Classes 2 and 4 was won by K. O’Connell. Mr G. Ross’s special for the winner of Class 1 and Mr T. B. Bowker’s special for the fastest head in Class 1 (maiden event) were won by J. Andrew’s Mac. TAIERI COLLIE CLUB. Beautiful weather prevailed for the seventeenth annual trials of the Taieri Collie Cl b, wnich opened at Mosgiel yesterday on grounds near the railway station. A fairly lengthy programme was arranged for tho occasion,, and it will toko all the time available to gee through this by to-morrow (Saturday) night. Mr Walter Murray is acting as judge. In addition to the competitors, who represented the sheep districts at practically tho whole of Otago and Southland, there was an excellent attendance of the public. Enthusiasts should see a good display m tho more important event;® which lake place to-day. The trials will be completed to-morrow. SOUTHERN COLLIE CLUBS. ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of tho Southern Collie Clubs’ Championships Association was held in Dunedin last night. There was a large number of enthusiasts, amongst whom were the following delegates:—Messrs A. Scott (Taieri), A. Mathesou (Strath Taieri), George Ross (Palmerston), P. A. Watt (Clutha), Jack (Warepa), IS. H. Aubrey (Umarama/, Philip (Waihemo), Fahey (T’uapeka), Anderson (Mossburn and Kau ana), M’Lean (Waiau), A. Henderson (Kyebum and Ngapara), Fhrop (Balclulha), E. Ross (Palmerston), C. C. M‘Lachlan (Taieri), and J. P. Walls (secretary). Miller’s Flat and Patearoa Clubs were represented by proxy. Mr Alex. Scott (the retiring president) was in tho chair. The following officebearers were elected: —President, Mr A. Scott ; vice-president, Mr P. A. Watt; secretary and treasurer, Mr J, P. Walls; committee —Messrs G. Ross, Henderson, J. B. Purdue, Jack, and Fahey. Mr Watt moved a remit from the Clutha Club—“ That the association compile an official list of judges.”—Mr Throp seconded.After a full discussion this was carried, the secretary to take steps to have a list ready for the November meeting. Tho following remit was handed in. by the Clutha Club:—“That tho association adopt a lixed scale of points for the chan,, pionship events.” —Tho renut was discussed lieely, and the following scale of points adopted:—Heading 10, pull 10, command 10, hold 4, style or work at yards 4, yarding 4. Mr M‘Laohlan (Taieri) introduced the. subject of an Exhibition trial during the period of tho Exhibition. This was fully discussed and approved. The secretary was instructed to communicate with clubs on the matter. The Taieri Club was willing to supervise all arrangements, representatives of chibs subscribing to have a voice on the Controlling Committee. The now rules and regulations of the association, which were approved at the November meetmg, were distributed in booklet form at the meeting. The secretary reported that since last meeting an additional club—Miller’s Flat—had been affiliated with the association.— Noted with pleasure, the president, remarking that he hoped more, back country clubs w ould follow tho example. In connection with tho heading event it was decided that the sheep be driven from the ring to the yard—not pulled. It was decided that the time limit for each event bo left to the discretion of the club holding the championship.
