GENERAL NEWS.

The monthly meeting of the Forbury School Committee was held on Monday night Mr W. Fleming ocupymg the chair. Tho other members present were: Messrs C. A. Lucas, W. Ritchie, J.D. M'Curdy, H. Alexander, B. Bern, 11. Blackburn, L. J. Ballard, and J’. T. Roberts. The head master reported that tho school closed last year with a roll of 736. Ninety-six new scholars were enrolled during the first week and 110 names were removed. The roll number at the end of the first week was 722. The attendances have been excellent, tho average roll for the month has been 712, the average attendance 688.7, and the percentage of attendance 90.7. Compulsory attendance came into force on June 1 Miss Stockwell, an exchange teacher from London, left on Friday to take up another position in Taranaki. Inspectois Robertson and Bain have been at the school for the past week. The deposits in Lie savings hank for the month were £25 6s 4d. The committee decided to accept the Education Board’s terms regarding painting the interior of the gymnasium, and also the installing of the electric light the school for cleaning purposes. Messrs Fleming and Lucas were appointed delegates to a conference with the Director of Education respecting introducing a junior high school. The Trinity Church Young Men’s Bible Class held n very successful concert on Monday night last in the cosy primary department’s buildings. The proceeds were in aid of the Bible class travelling secretary fund. Mr IV. Duke occupied the chair, and tlie following items were presented:—Piano solo M-r R. M’Kay; piano duet, Messrs L. and B. Dollhouse; recitations, Miss_G. Falconer; songs—Misses S. Paterson, N. M'Allam, I). Mockay, and B. Baird, Messrs H. Carey, S. Falconer, and S. Lawn; humorous sketch, Mr G. Adams.
