fPaoa Utjb Own Correspondent.) The borough election for the Mayor and councillors passed off without the expense of election. Mr T. C. Hore was elected tmoppbs'ed as Mayor, and Mr Strong (exMayor), who did not seek re-election as Mayor, filled Mr Hore’s place on the council, this being the only change. Mr Hore is progressive, and as the local townspeople have recently shown themselves optimistic as regards the future of the borough, it is hoped that with a progressive Mayor the borough will push ahead with a definite policy. Mr t T. C. Hore was also re-elected unopposed as the representative of the borough for the Maniototo Hospital Board. On .Wednesday last a .public meeting was held at Naseby to consider proposals for an electric light and power scheme for the district. There was a good attendance, and it was quits evident that those present were convinced of the possibilities of the proposals. Mr A. P. Aldridge, engineer of the Otago' Pqyrer and Mr Galloway, a member otf that bony, addressed the meeting from the Power Board’s point of view, and as to the wisdom of being up-to-date, and commanded the district for bringing the idea forward. Mr R. S. Cree Brown, consulting engineer, of Messrs Blair Mason, Lee, and Brown, also attended, and gave valuable information. Each speaker was accorded an attentive hearing, and the information supplied by them was highly appreciated. Other speakers followed. Delegates from Kanfurly urged that a further meeting should be held at Kanfurly, and also Waipiata, at an early date, so that each district council elect representatives upon a district committee, which will then carry the proposal further. At the conclusion the chairman (Mr R. F. Inder) expressed warmest thanks to the three principal speakers, which were heartily supported by thd meeting, and also a deeper conviction that the proposals would meet with the success deserved. A further meeting has how been arranged at Kanfurly for to-morrow evening to carry the scheme another step forward. The health restrictions being now removed, the local school reopens to-day, after being closed four months, and the newly-appointed head master (Mr Laing) now tapes charge
