DUNEDIN FRENCH CLUB.
This year’s session of the Dunedin French Club opened very successfully last evening at the Girla' High School, when between 50 and 60 members were present. The president (Dr G. E. Thompson) mentioned that the club was now entering upon its 20th year, and next year would attain its majority. Ho welcomed "Monsieur and Madame Saldaigne, who had been promenent in the French Club, and who would be a source of great strength to the local club. A very interesting programme had been arranged for the evening by M. Saldaigne. Miss Ford contributed a pianoforte solo. H. Saldaigno accompanied by Miss Ford, sang several French songs which were greatly appreciated. Miss Jeffreys recited La Fontaine’s fable, “La Cigale et la Fourmi” tastefully ana dramatically. The main part of the programme consisted of George Coutteline’a amusing one-act comedy /‘La Paix chez Soi,” in wliich the characters were taken by M. Saldaigne and Mra Primmer. Both were loudly applauded for their excellent rendering. The president, in thanking the performers, mentioned that the programme - for the second evening, three weeks later, would be announced subsequently.
